You recommended Fin Nor reels. Where do you buy yours at? Is there a particular one that you think is better than the others?

        Hi Ron,
That was a Gheenoe. The one we were in was an older model that had been customized a little. Gheenoes are fantastic. Check them out

    •   August 6, 2015, 9:21 am

Man…I have never fished for small skates, but I would imagine that a small piece of cut bait might be the best. Sorry I could not be of more help

    Tom and Rich,

Just found yall (yes I am in Texas) and love the shows. I enjoy it when you fish with you children, family and fishing go together. I am still going through the vidoes, have you done one where you get your wives out on the boat too?

    •   August 6, 2015, 9:26 am

Great show! Thanks for all of the information, tuitorial and fishing tips.
When fishing the bridges for tarpon which is the best fluorocarbon leader connection to braid, the double uniknot or a hollow core wind-on-system?
When is it best to use the wind -on-system?

    •   August 6, 2015, 9:27 am

I would go with the Double Uni, personally. The hollow braid connection, for me, is reserved for really large tackle where I use a wind on leader and 300 lb mono.

What do you guys think are he best lures for redfish, snook, trout, and tarpon in St. Petersburg area. Do you have any spots there to that you could tell me maybe privately in an email.

    •   February 19, 2015, 7:12 am

I dont know the area like a local would. As for lures…all standard redfish lures are going to work there as well. Redfish Magic, Gold Spoon, Jig and paddletail, etc… Tarpon are the same. I might suggest booking a local guide and explaining to him that you are trying to learn the area better.

      •   February 19, 2015, 3:43 pm

What are some good guides that you know of in St. Petersburg. That are good

    Hey Guys,

Love the show…. When is the peak time to be down in the Keys for big tarpon?

    •   February 16, 2015, 1:07 pm

      Hey Eric
      Thanks!
Peak time for tarpon is April, May and June as a quick and easy answer. We catch them all year, but that is the prime migratory period

What’s the best lure for stripers

    •   February 16, 2015, 1:09 pm

      Great question…
I have caught stripers but I am not an authority. I think they love eels from what my friends up north tell me.

    Thanks, Bobby

    •   January 21, 2015, 7:22 pm

Bobby, sorry took so long to reply. We are still getting the bugs out of the new website. Captain Tom and Captain Rich do not personally guide but they do recommend a guide out of Hawks Cay – Captain Mike O’Dell. You can visit http://www.hawkscay.com for more information on Captain Mike and book the trip as well.

What reels do you recommend for redfish, snook and also which ones for tarpon in the Quantum/fin-nor family. I fish around the Marco Island area

A Quantum 50 will do double duty for most medium size tarpon. I bump up to an 80 for bigger tarpon
