LISTEN NOW ON ITUNES, PODCASTS, SOUNDCLOUD, SPOTIFY, OR STITCHER!
Capt. Benny Blanco is a professional fishing guide out of Miami Florida who is working 300 days a year. In addition to a very heavy fishing schedule, Benny is also a husband and father to his 3 girls. If that wasn't enough to fill up anyone's schedule, Benny finds himself on the front lines in the fight for the Everglades. Recently he was the recipient of a conservation award given by Captains For Clean Water and Costa.
Many people have become aware of the water issues in South Florida. If you would like to get up to speed before listening to Benny, I suggest that you check out podcast #0012 with Capt. Daniel Andrews from the organization Captains For Clean Water and the update that I did with Daniel #0018 as well as my How2Tuesday #5 episode on How to Make A Difference In the Fight For The Everglades. These episodes can really help you to fully understand this issue. If you don't have time for that, simply watch Captains for Clean Water video below. Within 5 minutes, you will have a pretty good understanding of the problems that the Everglades is facing today.
Benny has a different perspective on this fight than any of our previous guests who have discussed the issue. Depending on where you are located geographically, this issue can impact areas differently. Some areas have far too much fresh water, some have fresh water inundation combined with high nutrients that create issues when they hit the warm ocean or Gulf waters and yet other areas have been completely starved of the fresh water that they need to sustain life and health. In Miami, Benny sees several issues but the areas that he is fishing mostly are the ones completely starved of the natural fresh water flow.
Benny loves the Everglades and has been fishing and exploring these waters most of his life. He fights out of instinct to protect what he loves.
