One of the most common questions I get is “What kind of rod should I get? I’m not looking to spend a lot of money but I want a quality rod.” I’m determined that the Mojo series from St. Croix is a great choice. I’ve been using them for the last few years - super high quality rod, at a reasonable price and very durable.
The one I use most commonly is the Mojo Salt, it’s about a 20 lb. rod. I use it offshore for sailfish and dolphin, and inshore for big sharks and tarpon. I put this rod in the hand of people who have little to no experience and they bring in huge fish. I’ve never had a tip break, its under $200 and a great rod.
Another rod you can look at is the Mojo Inshore which has a cork grip, under $150 and is great for jigging, small tarpon, redfish, and permit. I’ve never had a tip break on one of these either, that is a very common issue especially with inexperienced people, but these are super durable and I’ve never had a rod break.
