FLY TYING-MARABOU TOAD TARPON FLY- PETER SMITH SS FLIES
Today we get a fantastic video from Peter Smith of SS Flies. Today’s fly is a Marabou Toad which is a great, must have tarpon fly in the Keys. I like to fish this style of fly both in the backcountry and on the ocean in a variety of colors. It is, without a doubt, one of the most versatile patterns in my box.
Peter does a great job in this video talking you through the steps it takes to tie this fly while Tim ties it. Tim shows some really nice rotary vise techniques that make tying this fly and many others very fast and easy.
Tim also shows a neat way to tie in the EP fibers to make the head or to make a Merkin style fly.
As always, it is cool to watch anyone do anything that they have mastered and do well. These guys definitely know how to tie flies fast without sacrificing quality.
Also…love the puppy.
Enjoy

The Clinch knot is definitely a knot you need to know. I know a lot of knots and still find myself tying a good, old fashioned Clinch Knot in many situations. The real key to making sure you tie it correctly is to inspect it and make sure that the barrels are stacked, not hopping over one another.
